Carbon filters are designed to remove impurities such as chlorine, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from your water. The filter operates through adsorption, where contaminants adhere to the surface of the carbon, effectively trapping them and preventing them from passing through to your water supply.

Two Types of Carbon Filtration Available from Puronics

Activated Carbon infused with Chlorostatic® Clearess Technology and Activated Carbon with MicroSilver Bacteriostasis™ Technology is used in some Puronics water filtration and softening systems to improve water quality by removing impurities. 

Though they share some similarities, they also have distinct differences in their properties, applications, and effectiveness.

MicroSilver Bacteriostasis

Activated carbon with MicroSilver Bacteriostasis (B) is a porous form of carbon produced from various organic materials; this carbon is washed with SIlverShield silver to inhibit bacterial growth. 

Activated Carbon with MicroSilver Bacteriostasis™ Technology:
  • NSF-certified to block chlorine that can affect water’s taste and odor.
  • Blocks Organic compounds, such as pesticides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Removes heavy metals like lead and mercury.

The carbon must be replaced after 117,000 Gallons.

 

ChloroShield Clearess

Catalytic carbon with ChloriShield Clearess (C) is a specially treated form of activated carbon modified to enhance its filtration abilities. This modification involves a wash applied on the carbon’s surface, which increases its ability to filter chemicals from the water.

Catalytic Activated Carbon with ChloroShield Clearess Technology:
  • Removes chlorine: catalytic carbon effectively removes chlorine, which can affect water’s taste and odor. This results in improved water quality for drinking and cooking.

  • Removes chloramines: Catalytic carbon filters excel at removing chloramines, a water disinfectant commonly used as an alternative to chlorine. Standard activated carbon filters are less effective at removing chloramines.

  • Reduces hydrogen sulfide: Catalytic carbon filters effectively reduce hydrogen sulfide, which can cause a “rotten egg” smell in the water. This contributes to better-smelling and -tasting water.

  • Catalytic carbon filters can break down complex organic compounds, such as pesticides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), regular activated carbon filters may not effectively remove that. This ensures a higher level of water purity.

The carbon must be replaced after 2,000,000 Gallons.
